Community Repair Group Hosts Special Sustainability Event in Mountsorrel

The Fix It Group 23, a dedicated community interest organisation, is set to host a unique repair café event to underscore the critical importance of sustainability within the local area. This special gathering will take place on Sunday, April 19, at the MMC venue in Mountsorrel, organised in honour of World Environment Day. The event aims to promote the essential practices of repairing, reusing, and reducing waste, fostering a greener and more environmentally conscious community.

Notable Guests and Highlights of the Day

The event will feature an impressive lineup of special guests throughout the day, adding excitement and educational value for all attendees. Brenton West from the BBC's popular television programme The Repair Shop will be present from 12pm to 1pm. He will meet with volunteers and participants ahead of his scheduled "in conversation with" show later that same day at the venue, offering insights into the art of restoration and repair.

In addition, the event will welcome members of the Parish Council and the Deputy Mayor of Charnwood, highlighting local government support for sustainability initiatives. A particularly touching highlight will be the unveiling by Peter Rix of Rix & Co, a professional rocking horse restorer. He will showcase the remarkable transformation of a century-old rocking horse, which was restored free of charge. This beautifully restored piece will be auctioned off to raise vital funds for LOROS, the local hospice, demonstrating the community's commitment to charitable causes.

Community Collaboration and Support

The Fix It Group 23 has a strong track record of supporting other community projects, and this event will also include members of the Lutterworth Repair Café. The group played a key role in helping the Lutterworth initiative evolve from an initial concept into a thriving community effort, showcasing their dedication to spreading sustainable practices across the region. By hosting free monthly repair cafés in both Cropston and Mountsorrel, The Fix It Group 23 continues to empower residents to extend the life of their belongings, reduce landfill waste, and build a more resilient local economy.

This special World Environment Day event not only celebrates environmental stewardship but also strengthens community bonds through shared activities and learning opportunities. Attendees can look forward to hands-on repair sessions, engaging discussions, and the chance to contribute to a meaningful charity auction, all while supporting a greener future for Mountsorrel and beyond.
