EDF has confirmed a Friday midnight deadline for customers to sign up for a free electricity offer during England's quarter-final match against Norway on Saturday July 11 at 10pm. Eligible customers who register by midnight on Friday can enjoy two hours of free electricity from kick-off, with an extra hour free if the match goes into extra time.
Whether customers are hosting friends, powering multiple screens, catching up on household chores, or simply relaxing while the football is on, the free electricity can be used however they choose. EDF's research found that 73% of people expect football matches to increase electricity use at home.
How to Benefit from the Offer
On Saturday, customers can take advantage of two hours of free electricity from kick-off at 10pm, giving them the chance to watch the game for free, as well as run appliances, charge electric vehicles, and power their homes without cost. Over 100,000 customers are already signed up, but others can still register until midnight on Friday.
EDF, which serves Birmingham households, has also launched its Heatwave Relief Packs, a new £1 million initiative to help vulnerable customers stay safe and comfortable during periods of extreme summer heat. The aim is to support up to 10,000 customers who may struggle to keep their homes cool or who are worried about the cost of running cooling appliances such as fans.
Heatwave Relief Packs Initiative
Jessica Taplin, CEO of Charis, which will help distribute the packages, said: "For many people, extreme heat is a genuine health emergency. The recent Red Heat-Health Alerts issued across England by the UK Health Security Agency, alongside reports of increased pressure on NHS services during this summer's heatwaves, demonstrate the health impacts of extreme temperatures. Older people, young children, disabled people, those living with long-term health conditions, are particularly at risk."
Taplin added: "We are proud to be working with EDF to deliver practical, targeted support that reaches people when they need it most. By combining financial assistance, practical cooling equipment and trusted advice, this programme recognises that vulnerability doesn't disappear when winter ends. As our climate changes, the way we support vulnerable households must evolve too. We hope this initiative will encourage wider recognition that protecting vulnerable consumers from extreme heat should become as much a part of customer support as helping them stay warm in winter."
Impact and Call to Action
The free electricity offer is designed to ease the financial burden on households during the match, while the Heatwave Relief Packs address the growing need for support during summer heatwaves. Customers are urged to sign up by Friday midnight to take advantage of the free electricity offer, and vulnerable households can seek information on the relief packs through EDF's customer service channels.
