EDF gives free air fryers to thousands in UK winter support scheme
EDF giving free air fryers to UK customers

Thousands of UK households are set to receive free energy-efficient appliances including air fryers from major supplier EDF as part of a significant winter support initiative.

What's available in the Winter Warmer Scheme

The French energy giant has confirmed it is relaunching its Winter Warmer Shop Scheme this year, providing eligible customers with various free kitchen appliances designed to help reduce energy costs. Alongside the popular air fryers, customers can access kettles and slow cookers, all chosen for their energy-efficient properties compared to conventional ovens.

This initiative forms part of EDF's broader £30 million winter support package, which also includes the Customer Support Fund for those needing additional assistance. Through the Winter Warmer scheme, qualifying households can apply for both the energy-saving appliances and energy vouchers to help with immediate costs.

How the application process works

Unlike typical applications, customers cannot directly apply for the Winter Warmer Shop Scheme. Instead, EDF will proactively contact eligible households between November and February. Those who believe they qualify but aren't contacted can still seek support through the separate Customer Support Fund, which has an online application process.

The scheme represents a practical approach to tackling fuel poverty by providing households with appliances that can significantly reduce cooking costs, particularly important during the colder months when energy usage typically increases.

Additional support services available

Beyond the appliance scheme, EDF offers extensive support through its Priority Services Register (PSR), a free service available across England, Wales and Scotland. This register provides crucial assistance including large font or Braille bills, talking bills, and priority support during power outages.

Other valuable services include free gas safety checks to ensure appliance safety, password-protected visits from company representatives for security, meter reading assistance through smart meter installations or regular visits, and bill management support for those who need help handling their energy accounts.

This comprehensive support package demonstrates EDF's commitment to helping vulnerable customers navigate the challenging winter period while promoting energy efficiency through modern appliance technology.
