Residents in Portsmouth are set to receive a significant financial boost this week as energy giant OVO hosts a special community event designed to help households save up to £360 on their annual energy bills.
Substantial Savings Available
The OVO in the Community event takes place on Wednesday 19 November at the Spark Community Space in Portsmouth. Energy advisors will be on hand to provide expert guidance and distribute free energy-saving equipment that could substantially reduce household costs.
Attendees can expect to receive free electric blankets, energy-saving light bulbs, smart thermostats and solar battery banks. According to OVO's calculations, these products combined could save the average household approximately £360 per year on their energy expenditure.
Comprehensive Support Package
The initiative forms part of OVO's broader £56 million Extra Support Package, launched specifically to address the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. Since 2022, the energy provider has delivered £190 million in support measures to customers struggling with energy costs.
Several leading charities including Warm Welcome, StepChange and IncomeMax will also be present at the event. These organisations specialise in supporting people living in fuel poverty and will offer free debt advice to anyone concerned about paying their bills.
Targeting Winter Vulnerabilities
Steve Donovan, Vulnerable Customer Lead at OVO, emphasised the timing of the initiative: "We know that people are worried about their energy bills this winter, and OVO in the Community Events are designed to provide support to those who need it most."
David Barclay, Warm Welcome Campaign Director, added: "As temperatures drop this week, demand for Warm Welcome Spaces will rise. Working together with OVO and the Spark Community Space, we're supporting vulnerable people to reduce their energy bills, and stay warm and connected this winter."
The event series aims to bring communities together during the coldest months and provide tangible assistance to those most affected by rising energy costs. Last year alone, OVO assisted approximately 42,000 customers through similar support measures including heated blankets, smart sockets and efficiency kits.
