As autumn leaves continue to fall and gardening activities wind down, Bassetlaw District Council has issued an important reminder to local residents about their popular garden waste collection service.
Service Ending Soon
The council has confirmed that there are just three weeks of garden waste collections remaining for the 2025 season. The final collections will begin on November 17, with the service completely concluding by November 28.
This year has seen remarkable success for the service, with more than 15,000 residents participating in the scheme. Between March and August alone, an impressive 4,059 tonnes of garden waste was collected and recycled, preventing this substantial amount from ending up in general waste collections or being disposed of through less environmentally friendly methods.
Council Praise and Future Plans
Councillor Darrell Pulk, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods at Bassetlaw District Council, expressed his satisfaction with the service's growth. "Our garden waste collection service has grown again since last year, and it's great to see more and more people becoming interested in recycling their waste," he said.
"We thank each of our subscribed residents for disposing of their waste responsibly and hope to see even more people join the service next year and enjoy the convenience of having their garden waste collected from the kerbside."
Important Information for 2025
The service will resume on Monday, February 23, 2025, with residents able to sign up or renew their subscriptions from Monday, December 1, 2025.
There will be a slight price increase for next year's subscription, rising to £45 due to increased service delivery costs and planned improvements to the service.
An exciting development for 2026 will see the introduction of new technology that means residents will no longer need to display licence stickers on their brown bins. Refuse collection vehicles will use in-cab technology to identify subscribed properties automatically.
Each subscription includes use of a 240-litre wheelie bin suitable for:
- Grass cuttings
- Hedge trimmings
- Leaves and small branches
- Twigs, dead plants, weeds and flowers
The council advises residents to occasionally break up waste in their bins to prevent compaction and potential damage during collections.
The quickest way to renew or sign up is by visiting the Garden Waste page at bassetlaw.gov.uk/gardenwaste. Alternatively, residents can call 01909 534 524 to speak with a member of the Garden Waste team.
