The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has published a comprehensive list of 26 respiratory conditions that could entitle claimants to a weekly Personal Independence Payment (PIP) of up to £114.60. This financial support is designed to assist individuals with daily tasks and is available to those in need across England and Wales.
PIP Payment Rates for 2026
As of April 2026, over 3.7 million people rely on PIP to help cover additional costs associated with long-term disabilities, including both mental and physical conditions. The tax-free, non-means-tested payment is intended to help with daily living and mobility requirements, regardless of employment status, savings, or other income.
PIP consists of two components: daily living and mobility. Claimants may qualify for one, both, or neither, depending on their assessment. In January 2026, the DWP revised payment rates with a 3.8% inflationary increase and added 92 new conditions to the eligible list.
Daily Living Component Rates:
- Standard Rate: £76.70 per week
- Enhanced Rate: £114.60 per week
Mobility Component Rates:
- Standard Rate: £30.30 per week
- Enhanced Rate: £80.00 per week
Claimants eligible for the maximum support (enhanced rates for both components) receive £194.60 per week, equating to £778.40 per four-week period. Those qualifying for standard rates for both components receive £107.00 per week, totalling £428.00 per four-week period.
