Pamela Wolth, a former inpatient at Moya Cole Hospice, has shared her inspiring story of transformation after receiving care at the facility. Living with COPD, she struggled with walking and managing her breath, often spending her days in bed and losing the will to live. Before her admission, she weighed just four and a half stone and could barely manage daily tasks.
“I had never heard of Moya Cole Hospice before being referred, and I felt that people only come to hospices to die, as it was what I had been told,” Pamela said. Initially reluctant, she agreed after learning about the support available. “Never did I think that I would progress the way I have. I am now able to walk a full lap around the hospice without the need of my chair.”
The rehabilitation team at Moya Cole Hospice worked with her to regain strength through daily walking sessions, progressing from a few steps to completing a full lap. Pamela can now dress herself, manage her breath, and take care of herself. “I’m amazed by what they’ve done with me,” she added.
After four weeks of care, Pamela is being discharged, expressing gratitude for the phenomenal care from all staff, including volunteers, cleaners, and cooks. “They’re all like friends now. I would travel any distance to come back here if I was poorly again,” she said.
