Local charity Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice Care has begun welcoming patients, families and carers into its newly opened hospice, designed to provide comfort, dignity and modern clinical care. The charity supports people across West Surrey and North East Hampshire, and the opening of the new facility marks a major step forward in expanding and enhancing its care, with the aim of supporting up to 3,000 people a year by 2040.
First Patients Arrive at New In-Patient Unit
“This week we were delighted to welcome the first patients to the new Hospice In-Patient Unit,” said chief executive Sarah Church. Patients have now moved from a temporary site in Camberley into the new building.
18 Ensuite Rooms and Private Gardens
The hospice features 18 ensuite inpatient rooms, each with space for loved ones to stay overnight and direct access to private courtyard garden areas. Family rooms allow children and relatives to remain close, while patients can also choose to spend time outdoors in peaceful surroundings.
Wellbeing and Rehabilitation Centre
Alongside inpatient care, the hospice includes a wellbeing and rehabilitation centre where the Living Well team will support people earlier in their illness. These services help patients manage symptoms, maintain independence and improve quality of life. The centre also connects directly to gardens, encouraging time in nature as part of care.
Additional Facilities
Additional facilities include a welcoming café, outpatient consultation rooms, and spaces designed to support both clinical care and emotional well-being in a more homely environment.
Personalised Care for Patients and Families
Sarah said the new hospice will allow teams to provide even more personalised care, supporting not only patients but also families navigating difficult times, and enabling earlier access to vital services.
