Care Home Deputy Raises £1,701 for Hospice with Trek and Bake Sales

A dedicated deputy manager at a Boroughbridge care home has raised an incredible £1,701 for St Leonard’s Hospice after completing a challenging 12-mile trek and organizing two successful community bake sales.

Lynnette Sellers, deputy manager at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home, took on the demanding terrain of the Yorkshire Wolds on foot. Her fundraising effort brought together staff, residents, and local villagers to support end-of-life care.

For Lynnette, the annual trek holds deep personal meaning. She participates each year in memory of her father, who received care at St Leonard’s Hospice in York in 2019. Determined to give back, she turns her personal remembrance into a powerful force for good, helping other families access compassionate care.

To boost her fundraising, the community rallied with two bake sales. The first took place at Boroughbridge Manor Care Home, and the second in the village where Lynnette grew up. Residents, relatives, and staff all contributed—baking, running stalls, or donating to enjoy homemade cakes.

Susan Carter, general manager at Boroughbridge Manor, expressed pride in Lynnette’s determination. She said: “Taking part in this challenge has been a huge amount of fun and everyone at the home has been behind Lynnette all the way. It’s for such an important cause. I’m very glad to be able to do my bit to raise further awareness and money for the charity.”

The final total reached £1,701.25, which will be donated to St Leonard’s Hospice to fund specialist medical services. Boroughbridge Manor is run by Barchester Healthcare and provides personalized residential and dementia care for up to 81 residents.
