PIP, DLA & Attendance Allowance rates to rise in April 2026
Disability benefit rates confirmed for April increase

Millions of people across the UK who receive key disability benefits are set for a financial boost this spring, as the government confirms new payment rates for the coming year.

New Benefit Rates Confirmed for 2026/27

The Department for Work and Pensions has announced the annual uprating of social security benefits, designed to keep pace with inflation. All increases will take effect from Monday, 6 April 2026, which marks the start of the new financial year.

This means a significant rise for claimants of Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Disability Living Allowance (DLA), and Attendance Allowance. These benefits are vital for individuals who need support with daily living or mobility due to a long-term health condition or disability.

How Much More Will You Get?

The weekly Personal Independence Payment rate will increase to a maximum of £194.60, up from the current £187.45. The exact amount an individual receives depends on how their condition affects them, with both higher and lower rates available.

For those receiving the highest amount, this change translates to an extra £28 per month, or approximately £372 over the course of a full year.

Disability Living Allowance will also rise to the same maximum weekly amount as PIP. Meanwhile, the higher rate of Attendance Allowance, which supports people of State Pension age, is increasing from £110.40 to £114.60 per week.

Political Context and Future Changes

This confirmed increase comes amidst ongoing political debate about the future of disability support. Planned Labour reforms to PIP are currently on hold following internal criticism from the party's own MPs.

A wider review of the benefit is still in progress and is expected to publish its findings in the autumn of 2026. In a separate, controversial move, the health element of Universal Credit is set to be almost halved for most new claimants from April.

The confirmed rises for PIP, DLA, and Attendance Allowance will provide a welcome cost of living increase for millions, offering some financial stability as other aspects of the welfare system face potential change.
