Hundreds of homes across the Midlands are facing a cold and dark start to the weekend as power outages caused by Storm Goretti continue to affect the region.
Widespread Disruption Across the Region
In the wake of the storm, which brought significant snowfall and freezing conditions, more than 550 properties are currently without electricity. The disruption has been widespread, with public transport services severely impacted and numerous schools forced to close.
According to the latest data from National Grid, there were 13 separate power cuts in the West Midlands and nine in the East Midlands as of Saturday, 11 January 2026. This has left over 330 homes in the West Midlands and more than 220 in the East Midlands without a power supply.
Engineers Battle Challenging Conditions
National Grid issued a statement on Saturday, 10 January, acknowledging the ongoing issues. "Please be aware that the power cut map displays all outages across our network," a spokesperson said, "this includes new outages, along with any existing from Storm Goretti impact."
The company confirmed that while most customers had their electricity restored on Friday, teams are still working tirelessly to reconnect the remaining households. However, the recovery effort is being hampered by the storm's aftermath. Fallen trees, accumulated snow, and general debris are making access to some sites extremely difficult for repair crews.
"Despite this," the statement continued, "our engineers continue to carry out repairs on the small pockets of customers who remain without supply."
