Tributes Paid to Cheshire Police Officer Alice Mayo Killed in A534 Crash

A police officer described as "beautiful inside and out" by her grieving family has died in a road traffic collision in Cheshire at the age of just 29.

Police Constable Alice Mayo was off-duty at the time of the incident, which occurred on the A534 in the Arclid area on Saturday, February 7.

Details of the Tragic Collision

PC Mayo was driving her Fiat 500 when it was involved in a serious crash with a white Land Rover Defender. Despite the efforts of emergency services, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cheshire Constabulary confirmed that a 77-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

Heartfelt Tributes from a Devastated Family

In an emotional statement, Alice Mayo's family paid a moving tribute to a woman who meant so much to so many. They described her as a cherished daughter, sister, auntie, niece, and a devoted "dog-mum" to her Cocker Spaniel, Ned.

"She was beautiful inside and out," the family said. "She will leave a huge hole in our lives, but also a legacy of laughter, fun, and sunshine. She achieved so much in her short life, and leaves behind a heartbroken, but incredibly proud, family."

They added that Alice was at a particularly happy time in her life, having overcome significant challenges with her characteristic determination. "She was taken far too soon," they concluded.

A Dedicated Officer Remembered by Colleagues

Alice Mayo had served with Cheshire Constabulary for more than six years, earning a reputation as a dedicated and professional officer.

Chief Constable Mark Roberts expressed the force's profound sorrow. "This was a tragic incident, and my thoughts are with Alice’s family, friends, and colleagues at this difficult time," he said. "I want to pay tribute to our professional and courageous colleague. She was a dedicated professional who will be missed by all those who knew her."

He confirmed that the constabulary is providing support to Alice's family and colleagues and urged the public not to speculate about the circumstances of the collision, allowing investigators to conduct their work thoroughly.

Dan Price, the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, also shared his condolences. "I am deeply saddened to hear about the death of Alice at the weekend. My thoughts are with those who knew and loved her and of course with the policing family that she was part of."

Appeal for Information

Police continue to investigate the exact circumstances of the collision. They are appealing to anyone with information or relevant dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward to assist their enquiries.
