Rapid Response to Morning Vehicle Fire

Fire crews from West Midlands Fire Service were called to a significant vehicle fire in the Perry Barr area of Birmingham this morning. The incident involved a light goods vehicle which had become fully engulfed in flames on College Road at approximately 9am on Tuesday, December 2.

Crews Swiftly Bring Blaze Under Control

Responding to the emergency call, which was received just after 9.10am, the service mobilised resources from two local stations. Two fire engines and a 4x4 brigade response vehicle from Handsworth and Perry Barr fire stations attended the scene. Demonstrating a rapid turnout, the first crew arrived at the location within a mere four minutes of being dispatched.

Firefighters, equipped with breathing apparatus for their safety, immediately deployed two hose reels to combat the intense fire. Using powerful water jets, they worked efficiently to extinguish the blaze involving the light goods vehicle on the road. Their swift actions ensured the fire was brought fully under control.

Road Closure and Scene Management

To allow the emergency services to work safely and effectively, College Road was closed to traffic for a period during the operation. Highways staff attended the scene to assist with crucial traffic management and the subsequent recovery of the vehicle.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service confirmed that, fortunately, there were no reported injuries or casualties as a result of the fire. After ensuring the scene was safe, fire service personnel departed shortly before 10am, allowing the road to reopen.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but the quick intervention of the fire crews prevented any escalation and ensured public safety was maintained.
