A woman has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a multi-vehicle collision on the M5 northbound in Worcestershire. The incident, which involved three cars and a van, occurred on Tuesday evening (July 21) between junctions 5 (Droitwich/Wychbold) and 4a (M42 interchange).
Emergency Response and Road Closure
West Midlands Ambulance Service received reports of the crash at approximately 5:30pm. An ambulance and the Midlands Air Ambulance were dispatched to the scene. The woman, a passenger in one of the vehicles, sustained serious injuries and received trauma care from the medical team before being transported by land ambulance to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further treatment.
National Highways temporarily closed the M5 northbound to allow emergency services to work safely. The closure led to three miles of congestion and significant delays for motorists. Drivers were advised to plan their journeys in advance or consider delaying travel.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a single car RTC on the M5 between junctions 5 and 4a, Bromsgrove at around 5:30pm yesterday (Tuesday). An ambulance and Midlands Air Ambulance responded. A passenger, a woman, sustained serious injuries and received trauma care from the team. Once stable, the woman was conveyed by land ambulance to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further care."

The incident caused significant disruption during the evening rush hour, with congestion stretching back three miles. National Highways encouraged motorists to check for updates before setting out. The road was reopened later that evening after the scene was cleared and investigations completed.
