Boots and TK Maxx Issue Urgent Recall for Popular Eye Cream
A widely sold eye cream available at Boots and TK Maxx has been urgently removed from shelves following serious safety concerns. The Hello Sunday The One for Your Eyes Eye Cream SPF 50 is being recalled after quality testing revealed it may not provide adequate sun protection, potentially increasing the risk of skin damage and sunburn for consumers.
Immediate Stop-Use Warning Issued to Shoppers
Shoppers who have purchased this product are being strongly advised to stop using it immediately and return it to their place of purchase for a full refund or replacement. The recall affects all batches of the product, which was sold at a price point of £9.99 in stores between December 2025 and February 2026.
Testing Reveals Significant SPF Discrepancy
According to official statements from the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS), the product presents a risk to health as it may not provide adequate protection. While initial testing suggested the cream met its labeled SPF 50 UVB protection standards, recent quality assessments showed variable results with significantly lower SPF levels than declared.
This failure means the eye cream does not comply with Regulation (EC) 1223/2009, commonly known as The Cosmetics Regulation. The company Hello Sunday has stated they are proactively and voluntarily recalling the product out of an abundance of caution, though they report no incidents related to the issue have been received.
Retailers Confirm Recall Details
Both Boots and TK Maxx have confirmed the recall affects their stores, including branches in Solihull and Birmingham. TK Maxx specifically noted the product was sold under receipt code 79989 and emphasized that the significant discrepancy in sun protection labeling prompted the urgent action.
Consumers are reminded that using sun protection products with inadequate SPF levels can lead to:
- Increased risk of sunburn
- Potential for long-term skin damage
- Higher vulnerability to UV-related skin conditions
The recall serves as an important reminder for shoppers to regularly check product safety notices and heed manufacturer warnings when concerns arise about personal care items.
