Ceredigion Hepatology Team Trek Coastal Path for Fatty Liver Awareness
Ceredigion Hepatology Team Trek for Liver Awareness

Healthcare workers in West Wales are preparing to trek the entire Ceredigion Coastal Path this autumn to raise awareness of a major health condition that is often overlooked.

Staff from the Ceredigion Hepatology Service will take on the challenge to highlight the dangers of fatty liver disease, which is currently one of the leading causes of death in the UK. The team will traverse the region to educate the public about the condition, its risk factors, and the importance of early detection.

Public Engagement Along the Route

As well as undertaking the physical trek, the health team will hold public talk and Q&A sessions at two key locations along their journey. Visitors can drop by to ask questions, learn more about liver health, and discover how to spot early signs of the illness.

The awareness events aim to help local communities better understand how lifestyle choices and early intervention can protect long-term health. The sessions are free to attend and are designed to be accessible to all.

Fundraising for Enhanced Patient Care

Paige Denyer, fundraising support officer, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative: “What a fantastic challenge. We look forward to following their journey along the Ceredigion Coastal Path.”

She added: “The generous charitable donations we receive don’t replace NHS funding. Instead, they are used to provide items and activities above and beyond core NHS expenditure, such as more welcoming surroundings for patients, families and staff, and up-to-date equipment.”

Event Details and How to Support

The talk and Q&A sessions during the walk will take place on Friday, September 25, at Aberystwyth Promenade, and Saturday, September 26, at the main field in Aberaeron. Both events are free to attend.

Those wishing to support the team's fundraising efforts can visit their JustGiving page. For more details about the charity and how it supports NHS patients, visit the Hywel Dda Health Charities website.

The trek not only raises awareness but also underscores the dedication of healthcare professionals who go above and beyond to improve patient outcomes and community well-being.
