Omega, a Shrewsbury-based charity dedicated to ending isolation, has received a £3,000 donation from Persimmon Homes to expand its vital work. The funding will help the charity deliver over 550 weekly support calls to lonely people across the region.
Chatterbox Service Expansion
The donation supports Omega's Chatterbox telephone befriending service, which pairs isolated individuals with friendly volunteer supporters. Local representatives and community leaders recently gathered to officially present the cheque to the charity team.
David Crosby from Omega said: "We are delighted to receive £3,000 from Persimmon Homes to help Omega deliver and expand our telephone befriending service, Chatterbox, in the West Midlands. Through Chatterbox, volunteer befrienders can provide a much-needed sense of community and connection."
He added: "For some people, their weekly calls through Chatterbox can be the only regular social contact they have, and this donation will help us to reach more clients every week."
Community Leaders Praise Partnership
Community leaders have warmly praised the local partnership for helping vulnerable residents feel valued and supported. The housebuilder is currently constructing new homes in Shrewsbury alongside its ongoing community support work.
Councillor Alex Wagner said: "Omega is a truly remarkable charity, headquartered in Shrewsbury but making a difference to lives across the UK. Its work tackling loneliness and social isolation provides vital friendship, support and connection for people who might otherwise feel forgotten or alone."
He continued: "This generous Community Champions grant from Persimmon will help Omega reach even more people in need, strengthening communities and improving wellbeing. I am delighted to see this investment in such an outstanding organisation and the life-changing work it does every day."
