Eamonn Holmes Hospitalized After Suffering Stroke
Veteran broadcaster Eamonn Holmes has been rushed to hospital after suffering a stroke, according to an official statement from GB News. The 66-year-old television presenter, who has been a familiar face on British screens for over four decades, fell ill last week and has remained on a hospital ward since that time.
Health Concerns Preceded Hospitalization
The health emergency comes just weeks after viewers expressed concern when Holmes appeared to fall asleep during a live broadcast on March 11. During an interview with Labour Party cabinet member Darren Jones, the presenter seemed to struggle with consciousness, prompting audience members to call for him to be taken off air immediately.
One concerned viewer took to social media platform X to comment: "He's obviously struggling." Holmes had been scheduled to return to his regular GB News breakfast show on Monday, April 13, but has not appeared on air since the concerning incident in March.
Longstanding Health Challenges
This latest health crisis follows years of medical issues for the broadcaster. Holmes first encountered significant health problems in 2021 when he suffered three slipped discs and a dislocated pelvis. Speaking about his ongoing physical challenges just last month, Holmes revealed: "Well obviously I've been better. I've got this back and paralysis problem which has been with me now for three years. It's terrible to come to terms with."
The presenter added with characteristic resilience: "The thing is, nobody seems to know what the problem is so I just stick with it and hopefully they'll find a cure one day."
Network Support and Recovery Focus
In their official statement, GB News confirmed: "Eamonn was taken ill last week and it was later confirmed he had suffered a stroke. He is currently responding well to treatment. Eamonn has asked for privacy as he focuses on getting better. His colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the People's Channel when he is ready to return."
GB News CEO Angelos Frangopoulos added his personal support, stating: "Eamonn is a loved member of the GB News family, and we're with him every step of the way as he recovers."
Broadcasting Legacy
Eamonn Holmes holds the distinction of being Britain's longest-serving breakfast news presenter, with a remarkable career spanning more than forty years. Before joining GB News in 2022, he anchored GMTV from 1993 to 2005, presented Sky News Sunrise between 2005 and 2016, and co-presented ITV's popular This Morning program from 2006 until 2021.
The broadcasting community and viewers across the United Kingdom are now sending their well-wishes to the veteran presenter as he focuses on recovery from this serious health event.
