Janet Panton, a resident at Kiwi House care home in Alvaston, was unable to travel to Liverpool Town Hall for her granddaughter Katie's wedding to Jack. To ensure she didn't miss out, staff and family members secretly organised a full recreation of the wedding day at the care home.
Vows Repeated in Original Wedding Outfits
Katie and Jack arrived at Kiwi House dressed in their original wedding outfits. They repeated their vows in front of Janet, her family, and fellow residents. The afternoon celebrations included cake, fizz, and confetti.
Choir Surprise and First Dance
The care home choir surprised the newlyweds by performing 'In My Life' by The Beatles, one of the couple's favourite songs. Katie and Jack then took to the dance floor for a special first dance to the Grease mega mix, just as they had at their original reception.
Family and Staff Collaboration
The event was organised by home manager Jeanette and the activity team, alongside Janet's daughter Julie. Janet, who has lived at the home since December 2019, has four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Janet was delighted by the surprise, simply saying: "It's so beautiful." Her daughter Julie added: "It was a unique and lovely experience for the family, residents and especially Mum. By Kiwi House care home arranging the day, it made the family celebrations of Katie and Jack's wedding complete. Our biggest thank you."
