Two women are in hospital fighting for their lives after being crushed by a telegraph pole in a train station car park in Rhondda, Wales. The incident occurred at approximately 12:50pm on Thursday at Pontyclun train station.

Details of the Incident

The telegraph pole, which still had live electric wires attached, struck the women in the station car park. An air ambulance was called to the scene, and the women were rushed to University Hospital of Wales.

One of the women is believed to have suffered 'life-threatening' injuries, while the other is also described as critical, according to reports from the Mirror.

Police Statement

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: 'South Wales Police was called at 12.50pm this afternoon to the car park for Pontyclun train station to reports of two women trapped underneath a telegraph pole. The women have been taken to University Hospital of Wales where they continue to receive medical treatment.'

About the Station

Pontyclun station, which is unstaffed, is located on the south Wales line between Cardiff and Maesteg and occasionally serves regional Swanline services running between Cardiff Central and Swansea.
