Mental Elf Festive 5k Returns to Darlington on November 30
Mental Elf Festive 5k returns to Darlington

The community of Darlington is gearing up for a festive celebration with a purpose as the popular Mental Elf Festive 5k makes its much-anticipated return. Local charity Darlington Mind has officially announced the event, scheduled for November 30, inviting participants of all ages and fitness levels to walk, jog, or run their way through the picturesque setting of South Park.

A Festive Day Out For A Vital Cause

This year's event promises a full day of holiday cheer and community spirit. As participants tackle the scenic 5-kilometre route, they will be serenaded by the uplifting sounds of the Cockerton Prize Silver Band. Fancy dress is highly encouraged to amplify the festive atmosphere. To ensure everyone is ready for the challenge, Physique Health Club will lead an energetic pre-event warm-up.

Adding to the memorable experience, Yorkshire Rose Events will host a festive selfie booth, allowing walkers and runners to capture the fun of the day. Darlington Mind will also be running a raffle and selling festive merchandise, with all proceeds going directly towards funding their essential local mental health services.

New Support For An Inclusive Event

A key new feature for this year's run is a dedicated support system for anyone who might feel nervous about participating. Individuals who would appreciate company or extra encouragement can join a small group that will be accompanied by a Darlington Mind staff member throughout the route, ensuring a friendly and supportive environment for all.

Reflecting on the event's success, Jemma Gregory, Marketing and Development Officer for Darlington Mind, shared her enthusiasm. "Last year was our very first Mental Elf and it was incredible to see the community turn out in their fancy dress for such a great cause. As a local Mind, we rely on our own fundraising, so events like Mental Elf make a huge impact and help us continue supporting people in our community."

Community And Business Backing

The event enjoys strong support from both national and local businesses. The main sponsors are Aldi and EE, whose staff will also help marshal the course to keep participants safe. Other local organisations manning marshalling points include Babul's, Darlington College, and Darlington Football Club.

Darlington Mind is a local charity dedicated to improving mental health and wellbeing across Darlington, Hambleton, Richmondshire, and South Durham. They offer crucial services including counselling, peer support, and community programmes for adults and young people. Every entry fee and donation from the Mental Elf Festive 5k goes directly towards keeping these vital services running.
