YO! Sushi Birmingham Selfridges told to improve hygiene

YO! Sushi inside Birmingham Selfridges has been ordered to improve its food hygiene after receiving a failing score from inspectors. The popular chain was awarded a '2' rating on June 24, meaning improvement is necessary. This makes it the only store within Selfridges currently failing Food Standards Agency hygiene standards.

Cleanliness issues identified

The main issue identified was the cleanliness and condition of the building. Food safety management and hygienic food handling both passed inspection. Local authorities assess layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control in this category.

The Birmingham outlet is one of only two YO! Sushi restaurants nationwide to fail hygiene standards.

Chain responds to rating

A YO! Sushi spokesperson said: "Our Birmingham restaurant has consistently maintained a 5-star Food Hygiene Rating – and so we were disappointed to fall short of this in June."

The company acted swiftly to address concerns and implemented immediate remedial actions. A follow-up visit by environmental health officers has already taken place. YO! Sushi will seek to arrange a rescoring inspection with the local authority at the earliest opportunity.
