In a significant rescue deal for the UK's high streets, more than 60 branches of Jhoots Pharmacy have been saved from permanent closure after the chain went into administration.
National Chain Steps In
Allied Pharmacies confirmed on Friday that it has taken over the management of the over 60 branches, a move that prevents a major reduction in local healthcare access across England and Wales.
The acquisition will expand Allied Pharmacies' own network to approximately 210 branches, significantly bolstering its presence and capacity to serve communities.
Commitment to Communities and Staff
In an official statement, the national chain expressed its "full commitment to reinstating essential pharmacy services" and identified the swift reopening of closed branches as its immediate priority.
The company acknowledged the crucial role that local chemists play in public health, stating: "We recognise the fundamental role that community pharmacies play in supporting public health and wellbeing and understand the disruption caused by these closures, particularly for vulnerable groups who depend on local access to vital healthcare services."
In a move set to rebuild trust and support the workforce, Allied Pharmacies also confirmed it will be addressing outstanding salary arrears for the former Jhoots employees affected by the administration. The company expressed appreciation for the dedicated staff who endured a "difficult period."
