Over 60 UK Pharmacies Saved from Closure in Major High Street Boost
Over 60 UK pharmacies rescued from closure

Dozens of community pharmacies across the UK have been rescued from potential closure in a significant development for local high streets and healthcare access.

A Lifeline for Local Healthcare

Previously operated by Jhoots Pharmacy, which runs approximately 150 locations, more than 60 branches were at risk. Allied Pharmacies has now stepped in to save these vital community assets, preventing them from shutting their doors for good.

In an official statement, Allied Pharmacies emphasised its commitment, saying: “We recognise the fundamental role that community pharmacies play in supporting public health and wellbeing and understand the disruption caused by these closures, particularly for vulnerable groups who depend on local access to vital healthcare services.”

Unpaid Wages Scandal Preceded Rescue

The rescue deal comes amid reports of significant financial difficulties under the previous operator. According to The Sun, staff at Jhoots Pharmacies were owed hundreds of thousands of pounds in missed wages.

The Pharmacists Defence Association provided a more alarming estimate, claiming the total amount of unpaid wages could have reached as high as £670,000.
