Barclays has announced the closure of its Barclaycard online servicing website, effective Wednesday, June 10, 2026. Customers will be directed to use the Barclays app or alternative methods for account management.
Closure Details
The high street banking giant informed customers via email that the Barclaycard online servicing portal will shut down on June 10, 2026. The bank emphasized that this change will not affect account operations or card usage. However, the decision has drawn criticism from some customers who prefer traditional online banking.
One customer expressed frustration, stating: “They’re closing banks, and now they’re closing websites. Not everyone uses apps.”
Bank's Response
A Barclays spokesperson explained the rationale behind the move: “Following a review, we will be simplifying things for customers by replacing the dedicated Barclaycard website with account servicing via Barclays online banking. This change will be implemented gradually and with no loss of access to online banking for those who use it regularly.”
The spokesperson added that customers can still apply for new cards or manage existing accounts through the Barclaycard or Barclays apps, telephone banking, or in-branch services. Barclays noted that the transition is driven by increasing customer reliance on mobile apps for everyday banking tasks.
Future Access
While the dedicated Barclaycard website is closing, Barclays confirmed that customers will eventually be able to access Barclaycard services through the main Barclays website. Barclaycard currently serves over five million customer accounts in the UK.
The closure has sparked debate about digital inclusion, with critics arguing that not all customers are comfortable with or have access to smartphone apps. Barclays, however, maintains that the change will streamline services and improve efficiency.
