Halifax customers have been advised to begin using the Lloyds Bank app as Lloyds Banking Group phases out the Halifax brand from UK high streets. The group, which operates branches in Birmingham, announced it will stop opening new Halifax accounts and will migrate existing accounts to Lloyds branding over the coming days.
What Halifax customers need to know
Existing Halifax customers have received a message on their banking app stating: "Halifax has been part of the same family as Lloyds for many years, and soon, the Halifax brand will change to Lloyds. Over time, the brand of your Halifax accounts will change to Lloyds. You don't need to do anything yet, and your account details will stay the same."
The message continues: "Soon, when you log in, we'll be asking you to start using the Lloyds app. It's very similar to this one, and just as easy to use. Once you're invited, you can move across in a few quick steps. We'll never ask you to share personal details or move money by phone, email or text. Links or QR codes will be shared for information only. We won't ask you to log in or verify yourself using them. We're here to answer any questions you may have."
Impact on customers and services
Jas Singh, CEO of Consumer Relationships at Lloyds Banking Group, said: "As Halifax changes to Lloyds, our Halifax customers will keep everything they know and love today – the same fantastic app design, the same friendly faces in our branches – even the same sort code and account number. But as Lloyds customers, they'll get the best innovation and experiences we offer."
Singh added: "Our Lloyds customers are already benefiting from a significant investment into propositions like Club Lloyds, Lloyds Premier, Lloyds Ultra and Lloyds Rewards – and now we're really excited that Halifax customers can bank on Lloyds for more."
Background of the brand change
Lloyds Banking Group is scrubbing the 173-year-old former building society's name from UK high streets. The Halifax brand, established in 1853, will be retired as part of the group's strategy to consolidate under the Lloyds name. The transition is expected to take place over the coming days and weeks, with customers being guided through the process via in-app notifications.
