Andrew Stephen Gillett, 31, of no fixed address, has been charged with arson in connection with the incident. He appeared at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Tuesday, August 18, where he was remanded into custody. A hearing at Stafford Crown Court is scheduled for a date and time yet to be fixed, the police spokesperson confirmed.

Fire crews and officers were called to Eastgate Street on Monday, August 17, following reports of a fire involving a skip and several bins. The police spokesperson said: "A man has been charged following a fire in Stafford. Andrew Stephen Gillett, 31, of no fixed address, has been charged with arson."

Police statement

They added: "It comes after officers and firefighters were called to Eastgate Street on Monday following reports of a fire involving a skip and several bins. Gillett appeared at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre yesterday (Tuesday, August 18) and was remanded in custody ahead of a hearing at Stafford Crown Court on a date and time to be fixed."

The incident remains under investigation, and no further details about the cause of the fire have been released at this stage. The case will proceed to Stafford Crown Court for a future hearing.
