Nationwide App Users Face Persistent Pop-Up Ads; Bank Issues Guidance
Nationwide App Pop-Ups: Bank Issues Guidance

Nationwide Building Society has clarified new rules affecting all users of its mobile banking application following customer complaints about persistent promotional pop-ups. The lender, which operates branches in Birmingham, responded to a customer query on social media.

Customer Frustration Over Pop-Up Ads

A customer posted: "Is there a way I can stop promotional pop ups in the app? It doesn't matter how many times I click 'do not show me this again', they still reappear." Nationwide replied: "In your banking app, go to profile and settings and click on communication settings. There should be a section for marketing preferences which allows you to make changes."

Additional Features and Statement Access

The bank added: "You can view and download current account, savings and credit card statements from the last 36 months through your internet banking or your app."

How to Set Up the Nationwide App

Once downloaded, setup is straightforward and takes only a few minutes. Nationwide explains: "If you have already registered for online banking, you will need your 10-digit customer number, postcode and your date of birth. If you're new to online banking, you will just need to confirm: name, date of birth, postcode, email and account details. The final step of set up will be creating a 6-digit passnumber."

"Once you are set up, we will need to confirm it's you each time you log on. You can choose between using your passnumber or facial recognition. If you have not yet set up facial recognition on your device, you'll be asked to confirm using a passnumber and/or a one-time code."

Using the App Abroad

The Nationwide app works internationally, but it cannot be downloaded outside the UK. It is only available from UK app stores and onto UK devices. Users should download it before travelling. The app is designed for phones and tablets only.

Alternative Access and Feedback

For laptop users, Nationwide's internet bank is available. The bank encourages feedback: "You can use our feedback form to let us know what you think about our app. Or sign up to Member Voice and join other members who are helping us to shape our services and products, including our app."
