The Royal Mail has issued a significant service alert, warning that 127 postcodes across the United Kingdom are experiencing major delivery delays today. The disruption is primarily attributed to high levels of staff sickness affecting a number of local delivery offices.
Service Disruption Due to Staff Shortages
In an official statement, Royal Mail confirmed that while it aims to deliver to all addresses six days a week, this has become temporarily unfeasible in some areas. The company cited local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing challenges, and other local factors as the core reasons for the widespread delays. They have apologised for the inconvenience caused to customers.
Targeted Support and Recovery Efforts
To mitigate the impact, Royal Mail has announced it is providing targeted support to the struggling delivery offices in an effort to restore normal service levels as swiftly as possible. The company has also stated that it will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay experienced by individual customers.
"We will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive," a Royal Mail spokesperson added. The firm thanked customers for their understanding during this period of disruption.
