West Bromwich Albion are navigating a potential suspension crisis as a hectic period of Championship fixtures approaches, with key defensive players walking a disciplinary tightrope.
Defensive Duo on the Brink of Ban
The Baggies' central defensive partnership of Chris Mepham and Nat Phillips are both just one yellow card away from an automatic one-match suspension. Each player has accumulated four cautions so far this season.
This disciplinary concern comes on the back of a disappointing 3-2 defeat away at Coventry City. Despite leading 2-0 with goals from striker Aune Heggebo, West Brom succumbed to a comeback after Jayson Molumby's red card left them with ten men.

New Signings Facing Immediate Test
Both Mepham and Phillips were summer acquisitions brought in to strengthen West Brom's back line. Mepham, a 28-year-old Wales international with 53 caps, joined from AFC Bournemouth after a successful loan spell at Sunderland last season.
Phillips, also 28, arrived from Liverpool seeking a new challenge after a loan stint at Derby County. His career has included various loan moves to gain experience, including spells at Stuttgart, Bournemouth, Celtic, and Cardiff City.
Additional Suspension Concerns for Baggies
The suspension threat extends beyond the first-choice centre-backs. George Campbell and Callum Styles are also nearing a ban, with both players sitting on three yellow cards each, just two cautions away from a suspension.
Campbell, a versatile USA international who can play at full-back or centre-back, joined West Brom ahead of this season from CF Montreal. Styles has been with the club since 2024, making 50 appearances and scoring three goals.
