Planning Approval Granted for Major Investment
Shropshire-based brewery, The Hobsons Brewery, has received planning permission for a £2 million renovation of a historic pub in Birmingham. The project, which aims to transform the Grade II-listed building into a modern gastropub, is expected to create up to 30 new jobs in the area.
The brewery, known for its traditional ales, plans to restore the pub's original features while adding contemporary touches. The revamp includes a new kitchen, extended bar area, and improved outdoor seating.
Historic Building to be Restored
The pub, located in the heart of Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter, dates back to the 19th century. The renovation will preserve its Victorian architecture, including original tiles and woodwork. The brewery has committed to using local suppliers and materials where possible.
According to the planning documents, the project will also include energy-efficient upgrades, such as new insulation and LED lighting, to reduce the building's carbon footprint.
Economic Boost for the Area
The investment is expected to give a significant boost to the local economy. The brewery estimates that the revamp will attract more visitors to the Jewellery Quarter, supporting other local businesses. The new jobs will range from kitchen staff to management positions.
"We are thrilled to have received planning permission for this exciting project," said a spokesperson for Hobsons Brewery. "This investment demonstrates our commitment to Birmingham and our belief in the future of the city's hospitality sector."
Community Support and Next Steps
The plans have been welcomed by local residents and business owners. The Jewellery Quarter Business Improvement District (BID) has expressed its support, noting that the revamp aligns with efforts to revitalize the area.
Work on the pub is expected to begin in early 2024, with completion scheduled for later that year. The brewery has stated that it will keep the community informed throughout the construction process.
