Residents living on Hospital Street and Croft Street in Walsall say they are at breaking point over the ongoing traffic chaos, as a planned one-way system remains without funding and with no delivery date in sight. The proposed traffic regulations received widespread backing during a council consultation in 2024, but Councillor Nicky Barker has confirmed that other projects have been prioritised in road safety reviews, leaving the scheme unfunded.
Residents Report Daily Ordeal
Locals report ongoing vehicle damage, speeding, excessive noise, blocked driveways, and frequent confrontations between motorists. Bilal Hussain, 47, a resident, said: "There's a major accident waiting to happen." Wendy Wilkinson, 57, described daily fighting in the street, stating: "Between nine and half past, and between four and six, there is fighting here every day." Nosheen Akhtar, 31, said her children's sleep is disturbed by traffic noise and her car has been damaged multiple times.
Council Response
Walsall Council has said there are no changes to their position since the councillor's last update. The delay has left residents feeling ignored and frustrated, with no clear timeline for when the one-way system might be implemented.
