Mike Tapp, the Member of Parliament for Dover and Deal, has described 2025 as a landmark year in his political career. It marked his first complete year representing the constituency, a role he states he has enjoyed immensely.
A Year of National and Local Delivery
In his review, Tapp pointed to national progress under the current Government, including millions of extra NHS appointments, a higher minimum wage, and falling electricity bills. He noted that with six interest rate cuts and inflation coming down, residents are starting to feel the benefit in their cost of living.
Beyond his work in Westminster and as a Home Office Minister tackling immigration, Tapp has dedicated his Fridays and weekends to engaging with the local community. He has visited numerous community groups, small businesses, and organisations across the towns and villages of his constituency.
"Few parts of this job are more rewarding than seeing first-hand the dedication and community spirit that exists across Dover and Deal," Tapp said, emphasising the importance of hearing residents' concerns directly to raise them in Parliament.
Key Constituency Achievements in 2025
The MP highlighted several local victories. In education, he secured millions of pounds for seven schools and launched his 'Tapp into Reading' literacy initiative, visiting primary schools to encourage reading through live theatrical performances.
A significant financial boost came with the securing of £20 million in government funding for areas of Dover. Tapp is now urging constituents to submit ideas for how this money should be spent, asking them to email him with the subject line ‘£20 million community funding’.
Another critical success was the return of blood testing services to Deal Hospital, a campaign delivered alongside local activists to improve patient access and convenience.
Supporting Residents and Looking Ahead
Tapp also praised his dedicated Dover-based casework team, who assist constituents with complex issues ranging from housing and benefits to immigration and healthcare access.
As he looks back on 2025, the MP characterised it as a year of hard work, collaboration, and focus on delivering for local people. While acknowledging there is always more to do, he expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and reaffirmed his commitment to working tirelessly for everyone he represents.
He concluded his review by wishing everyone in Dover and Deal a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, expressing optimism for building on this progress in the year ahead.
