Two New Pub Rules in England from June 2026

The Labour Party government has confirmed two new rules for pubs in England from June 2026, aimed at accommodating football fans during the World Cup. The tournament, hosted in Mexico, Canada, and the USA, runs from Thursday, June 11, to Sunday, July 19.

Extended Opening Hours

Pubs can stay open until 1am for matches starting between 5pm and 9pm UK time, and until 2am for matches starting between 9pm and 10pm UK time. This applies to all home nation matches beyond the group stages.

Government Statements

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said: "Nothing brings us all together like a World Cup summer and cheering on England in a packed pub." Communities Secretary Steve Reed added: "The last thing any of us want to see is people being turfed indoors half-way through penalties."
