A popular Birstall sports club is opening its doors to invite local residents to try out a brand new activity for free this weekend. Birstall Bowls Club is hosting a special open day as part of a major national initiative to introduce more people to the sport. The exciting event is part of Bowls England's Bowls’ Big Summer celebrations.

Special Significance Ahead of Commonwealth Games

The gathering feels particularly special this year, ahead of bowls being featured at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next month. The free session will take place on June 20, 2026.

Event Details and Activities

Anyone who would like to have a go can visit the club between 10am and 6pm. The club plays on the School Lane Playing Fields, based in the heart of the village. Various fun activities and games are planned for visitors throughout the day.

All of the necessary bowling equipment will be provided by the organisers. Visitors just need to bring along a pair of trainers or flat-soled shoes to take part. Experienced players and coaches will also be on hand to offer helpful assistance.
