Leicestershire County Cricket Club Seniors are organising a charity walk to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer research. The event, which forms part of the national Ron's March campaign, will take place on Friday, August 7, starting from the club's Grace Road headquarters.
Walk Details and Route
Participants will set off at 9.30am, covering a route that visits four former Leicestershire county ground sites: Aylestone Road, St Margaret's Pasture, Wharf Street, and Victoria Park, before returning to Grace Road. The walk is free to join, though donations are encouraged to support Prostate Cancer UK and The Bob Willis Fund.
Founder's Story and Mission
Ron Hedley, who founded the national walking challenge after being diagnosed with both prostate cancer and bone cancer, will be present at an awareness stand during the club's official charity day. Hedley will offer advice on early detection and the importance of simple prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood tests, which can help save lives.
Match and Spectator Activities
Visitors can also watch a one-day cricket match at Grace Road between Leicestershire and Warwickshire, the former team of legendary cricketer Bob Willis. The charity day combines sport with a vital health message, aiming to tackle a disease that affects one in eight men across the country.
