A £4.5 million investment from the Welsh Government will fund a network of cycling hubs and improved signage across Wales, part of a legacy plan for the Tour de France Grand Départ arriving in 2027. The funding aims to create lasting health, sporting, and economic benefits, with the event expected to draw over one million visitors and a global television audience of 150 million viewers across 190 countries.

The investment will establish a national network of destination cycling hubs, micro-hubs, and signage. Facilities may include secure cycle parking, storage areas, e-bike charging points, maintenance stands, water provision, bike hire services, and cycling information. The initiative builds on Wales's existing world-class cycling routes, including road, mountain biking, gravel, and leisure paths, aiming to transform the nation into a premier cycling tourism destination.

Funding and Timeline
Delivered through the Brilliant Basics capital fund, £2 million will be made available in 2026-27, increasing to £2.5 million in 2027-28. All approved projects must add value to the visitor experience and provide benefits for local communities. Local authorities and national park authorities will lead delivery. Applications open on 10 August 2026, with a closing date of 25 September 2026 at 1pm.
