Birmingham Fitness Challenge Aims to Beat January Slump with Technogym MOVE's
Birmingham Health Club Launches January Fitness Challenge

A major health and fitness club in the heart of Birmingham is launching a fresh initiative to help its members power through the latter half of January. The Make Your MOVE's challenge is designed to combat the common mid-month motivation dip and keep workout routines on track.

How the Nationwide Competition Works

The challenge is being hosted at the Bannatyne health club in Brindley Place and is part of a much larger national event spanning 67 clubs across the country. It will run for a focused two-week period from Monday, 19th January to Friday, 30th January 2026.

Participants will compete to generate as many Technogym MOVE's as possible. This is a universal metric for physical activity that is earned by completing cardio workouts on the club's equipment. Members simply log into the machines during their sessions, and every MOVE they earn is automatically added to their club's overall tally.

The club that accumulates the highest total number of MOVE's by the 30th of January will be declared the national winner. The victorious club will receive a new trophy and the prestigious title of the Bannatyne Group's first challenge champions of 2026.

Designed for Consistency and Inclusivity

Clare Mackie, the Fitness Coordinator for the Bannatyne Group, explained the thinking behind the challenge. She highlighted that this point in January is critical for maintaining momentum. "This point in the month is often when people are focused on staying consistent," she said. "The challenge encourages members to keep moving and recognise that every workout they do has value."

A key feature of the initiative is its accessibility. The challenge is open to all members and staff, regardless of their fitness level or ability. Individuals can join at any stage during the fortnight-long event.

The Technogym MOVE scoring system is based on personal effort and intensity, rather than comparing one person's fitness to another's. This means a beginner's workout contributes just as meaningfully to the club's total as that of a seasoned gym-goer, making it a truly inclusive community effort.

A Community Effort to Boost Wellbeing

This initiative moves beyond individual goals, fostering a sense of team spirit and collective achievement within the Birmingham club. By turning personal exercise into a shared mission, the Bannatyne Group aims to provide an extra layer of support and encouragement during a time when New Year's resolutions often waver.

The focus on measurable activity through the MOVE metric offers clear, tangible feedback for participants, helping them see the cumulative impact of their efforts in real-time.
