Birmingham Sisters Launch Affordable Pilates Studio in West Bromwich
Two sisters from Birmingham have opened a new reformer Pilates studio in West Bromwich, offering affordable classes designed to be accessible to as many people as possible. Talisa Mesquitta, 38, and her sister Shani Mesquitta, 28, launched Youformia Room on February 2, with the business already welcoming over 120 participants since its opening.
Focus on Accessibility and Community
The sisters, who grew up in Edgbaston, created the studio with accessibility, inclusivity, and community at its core. Talisa explained that they chose West Bromwich because there was a lack of local, reasonably priced reformer Pilates options with available slots. The studio operates seven days a week, providing both early-morning and evening classes to accommodate various schedules.
A key community initiative is the weekly "For Every Form" class, priced at just £12 per session on a pay-as-you-go basis. This class is specifically designed to make reformer Pilates more financially accessible, allowing more individuals in the local community to prioritize their health and wellbeing regardless of their starting point.
Affordable Pricing Structure
Regular classes at Youformia Room are priced at £21 per session, which Talisa notes is more reasonable than many competitors who typically charge between £22 and £28. The sisters are passionate about ensuring the studio remains affordable and welcoming, particularly for those new to exercise or hesitant about group classes.
Balancing Business with Day Jobs
The Mesquitta sisters are both mothers who manage the studio alongside their full-time careers. Talisa works as an NHS psychotherapist, while Shani is a food technologist at a local university. Despite their busy schedules, they have successfully built a family-owned business rooted in Sandwell, aiming to create a space where people feel seen, supported, and empowered.
Future Plans and Community Impact
Talisa expressed excitement about the studio's positive reception, with many reviews highlighting the welcoming atmosphere. The sisters have numerous plans for upcoming Pilates events and look forward to expanding their community reach. Currently, Talisa resides in Smethwick and Shani in Edgbaston, maintaining strong ties to the Birmingham area while serving the West Bromwich community.
