Amadou Onana will be unavailable for Aston Villa's Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, with manager Unai Emery confirming that the midfielder requires a scan on a calf injury. The Belgian international sustained the problem during the first half of Villa's 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Thursday night and was substituted early in the second half.
Emery's Update on Onana's Fitness
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Emery revealed that Onana was already experiencing pain at halftime and could not continue shortly after the restart. The 24-year-old had only recently returned from a minor knee issue against Forest, having missed Villa's previous 1-0 loss at Fulham last weekend.
When asked for an update ahead of the Tottenham match, Emery stated: "Difficult. He has a scan and we will see the consequences after it and how he is feeling. For Sunday, for sure, he is not available."
Onana's Season So Far
Onana has made 36 appearances for Villa this season, his second at the club following his £50 million move from Everton in the summer of 2024. The Belgian has started 10 of Villa's Europa League matches and 21 of their 34 league fixtures, establishing himself as a key figure in Emery's midfield.
Villa's Upcoming Fixtures
With Onana sidelined, Villa will need to adjust their lineup for the crucial encounter against Tottenham. The match is set to take place on Sunday night, and Emery will be hoping for positive results from Onana's scan to determine the severity of the injury and his potential return timeline.
