Aston Villa are preparing for a busy summer transfer window as manager Unai Emery aims to strengthen the squad for Champions League and domestic challenges. Following a successful season that saw Villa finish fourth in the Premier League and win the Europa League, the club is linked with several players to add depth and quality.
Goalkeeper Clause Emerges
According to German outlet Bild, via Get Football News Germany, Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas has a €10 million exit clause in his contract. The 28-year-old has been linked with Villa, with reports suggesting the club has already made an enquiry. Nicolas kept 13 clean sheets in the Bundesliga last season, attracting interest from multiple clubs. However, the clause is time-limited and must be activated before the end of the World Cup on July 19.
Liverpool Defender Update
Joe Gomez, who had been linked with a move to Villa, is now 'likely to stay' at Liverpool for the final year of his contract, according to The Athletic. The 29-year-old defender, known for his versatility across the backline, had a disrupted season due to injuries and bench starts. With Ibrahima Konate leaving Anfield, Gomez is expected to remain with the Reds.
Tribute to James Milner
Aston Villa paid tribute to James Milner after the 40-year-old announced his retirement from football. Milner, who made 126 appearances for Villa in two spells, enjoyed a stellar career winning Premier League titles with Manchester City and Liverpool. Villa posted a message on social media, calling him a 'wonderful servant in claret and blue' and one of the Premier League's all-time greats.
