Birmingham City have terminated Jack Robinson’s contract by mutual consent, bringing an end to the defender’s short spell at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park. The club confirmed the departure on the day Robinson turns 33, exactly one year after he signed from Sheffield United.
A Difficult Year at St Andrew’s
Robinson joined Blues on this day last year from Sheffield United, but he struggled to replicate the form that had made him a regular at Bramall Lane. During his 16-game career with Birmingham, the defender’s time was marred by disciplinary issues and costly errors.
In only his second appearance, Robinson was sent off against Coventry City. His fourth match saw another red card – a straight dismissal against Hull City in a game Blues went on to lose 3-2. The defender also scored an own goal and conceded a penalty against his former club Sheffield United for picking up the ball inside his own box.
Eventful Spell Ends
Those incidents defined an eventful stint that ultimately led to the mutual decision to part ways. The termination frees up a squad place and wage budget for Birmingham City as they continue their campaign under manager Chris Davies.
Robinson leaves having made 16 appearances for Blues, with his final contribution being the penalty concession in the defeat to Sheffield United. The club has not commented further on the departure, but the move allows both parties to move on.
