Birmingham City's Triple Injury Update: Laird, Wright & Buchanan Timelines
Birmingham City's Triple Injury Update & Return Dates

Birmingham City manager Chris Davies has delivered a significant triple injury update, outlining return timelines for long-term absentees Scott Wright, Lee Buchanan and Ethan Laird.

Wright Nearing Light Training Return

Winger Scott Wright is poised to re-join light training in the coming weeks, marking a major milestone nine months after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament rupture. The injury occurred during the Reading match on February 22.

Davies confirmed the player has entered "end-stage rehab" but cautioned that supporters shouldn't expect to see Wright in competitive action until after the New Year. "He's worked exceptionally hard," Davies said about Wright's recovery journey.

Buchanan's Recovery Progress

Left-back Lee Buchanan is following a similar recovery path to Wright, though he remains slightly behind in his rehabilitation schedule. While making positive progress, Buchanan won't be rejoining the first team setup imminently.

Davies clarified the timeline difference between the two defenders, stating simply: "Lee is a bit behind that schedule."

Laird's February Return Timeline

In the most definitive update yet, Davies has confirmed that right-back Ethan Laird isn't expected to resume training until February 2025. Laird sustained a significant hamstring injury during Birmingham City's defeat to Coventry City in late September.

The manager provided clear expectations for Laird's comeback, stating: "Ethan is well behind. It's February I think where he's due to be back at that point of joining the team again." This timeline confirms the defender won't feature again this year.

All three players continue their rehabilitation programmes as Birmingham City manages their long-term absence from Chris Davies's squad options.
