Birmingham City are reportedly on the verge of securing a deal for USMNT full-back Kristoffer Lund as they move to address the departure of Kai Wagner. Sources indicate that the club is in advanced negotiations with Italian side Palermo, where Lund has been deemed surplus to requirements under manager Filippo Inzaghi.
Who is Kristoffer Lund?
Lund was born on May 14, 2002, in the small Danish coastal town of Kerteminde on the island of Funen. Of Danish and American heritage, he began his football education at age 13 when FC Midtjylland scouts identified his potential and brought him into their youth academy. His talent was quickly recognised, and on his 15th birthday, he signed his first professional contract.
Progressing through the ranks, Lund trained alongside players such as Frank Onyeka and Alexander Sorloth. He made his senior debut for Midtjylland in the 2020/21 season during a Danish Cup victory over Odense Boldklub. Seeking regular first-team football, he moved to Sweden to join BK Hacken after a brief spell with Esbjerg.
Success in Sweden and Italy
At BK Hacken, Lund played a key role in winning the Swedish top-flight title in 2022, registering six assists in the process. His performances caught the eye of Italian scouts, leading to a move to Palermo in 2023. He quickly became a fans' favourite and earned his first cap for the United States men's national team.
