Birmingham City are poised to complete a significant January transfer coup, with a deal for Colombian midfielder Jhon Solis now in its final stages. The Blues are set to bring the 21-year-old from Spanish La Liga side Girona as manager Chris Davies continues to reshape his squad.

According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, negotiations between Birmingham and Girona for Jhon Solis are at the final stages. Romano stated that a 'here we go' announcement is expected soon, with the player's camp working to finalise the move in the coming hours.
Solis is reportedly attracted by the ambitious project at St Andrew's and is ready for a new adventure after two years in Spain. His arrival would address a key area for Blues, who are seeking a midfielder to complement the existing talents of Paik Seung-ho and Tommy Doyle, especially with Marc Leonard anticipated to depart the club this month.
Solis's Pedigree and Experience
Despite his young age, Jhon Solis arrives with considerable top-level experience. The Colombian youth international made 49 appearances in La Liga for Girona over the past three seasons. Notably, he also featured five times in the prestigious UEFA Champions League during the last campaign, gaining valuable exposure on Europe's biggest stage.
Solis began his career at the famed Medellin-based club Atletico Nacional, moving to Girona in 2023. He has represented Colombia at under-16 level, marking him as a promising talent with international pedigree.
A Busy Window for Blues
The potential signing of Solis continues what has been an active start to the January transfer window for Birmingham City. The club has already secured the arrival of left-back Kai Wagner, while seeing defenders Dion Sanderson, Emil Hansson, and Eiran Cashin depart.
Furthermore, the Championship side are also believed to be closing in on another young talent, 21-year-old Mjällby winger Abdoulie Manneh, indicating a clear strategy of investing in promising players.
When questioned about the likelihood of new additions this week, Blues boss Chris Davies remained hopeful but cautious. "We’re hopeful. We will see how it goes," Davies said. "There’s a lot going on and a lot of moving parts at the moment. You can see with the squad where we are with it, but we’re winning games and that’s the most important thing."
