Birmingham City Contract Deadline Explained Ahead of Retained List
Blues Contract Deadline Explained Ahead of Retained List

Birmingham City will soon confirm their retained list following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season. The club, along with other EFL sides, must inform players by the end of the week if they plan to extend their contracts.

EFL Rules and Deadline

EFL regulations stipulate that clubs must confirm their decisions to out-of-contract players by the third Saturday in May, which arrives this week on May 16. Blues do not have many decisions to iron out this year regarding their first team.

Senior Player Out of Contract

Jonathan Panzo is the only senior player out of contract at St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park. The 25-year-old defender joined Blues on a short-term deal from Rio Ave in January, hoping to secure an extended stay in the Second City. Panzo made nine appearances in total for Blues, including seven starts, and played his last game in the 2-1 defeat to Ipswich Town on April 6.

Goalkeeper Situation

Third-choice goalkeeper Brad Mayo also sees his deal come to an end. The 21-year-old has been a fixture in the first-team set-up under Chris Davies but has not yet made his senior debut.

Academy Decisions

As ever, the bulk of the retained list will concern youngsters in the club's academy. Blues have decisions to make regarding a number of youngsters currently in the under-21 set-up.
