Birmingham City are expected to complete their seventh signing of the summer transfer window today as Ghanaian forward Mohammed Fuseini arrives on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise, with an option to buy. The club are also still considering another forward before the 11pm deadline.
Fuseini would follow Jhon Solis, Dael Fry, James Beadle, Luis Vazquez, Kristoffer Lund and Max Bird in joining the club this window. Blues are not done yet, with wingers still under consideration to bolster Chris Davies' attacking options.
Fuseini's versatility and the Osman pursuit
Fuseini is viewed as someone who can play across the front four positions and had his best spell for Union Saint-Gilloise in the 2024/25 campaign as a second striker. The 24-year-old is not an out-and-out winger in the mould of Ibrahim Osman, whom Blues have spent the summer trying to re-sign or replace.
Fuseini's versatility gives Blues' recruitment team some flexibility, but Davies' preference all summer has been to find a like-for-like alternative to Osman. Osman has featured in all four of Brighton's games this season, both in the Premier League and the Europa Conference League, and a return to St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park has been blocked by Fabian Hurzeler.
Whether Blues can find the right solution today remains to be seen, but they will at least flesh out their attack with the addition of Fuseini.
Outgoings: Roberts stays, Ducksch could leave
With regards to outgoings, Davies is reluctant to entertain interest in any players who have featured prominently in Blues' start to the season. Blues have fielded calls about Patrick Roberts, but Davies has been adamant that he wants the 29-year-old to stay and scrap Carlos Vicente for his place in the team.
The most obvious candidate to depart is Marvin Ducksch, particularly if Davies feels his squad is well stocked enough in that position following the arrival of Fuseini. Ducksch isn't likely to get the game time he craves under Davies and could leave after just 12 months at the club.
There could be some late interest in fringe players Lee Buchanan and Scott Wright, while Blues wouldn't stand in Kanya Fujimoto's way if a suitor stepped forward.
Fujimoto's uncertain future and the Southampton clash
Davies made his position on Fujimoto clear at the beginning of August: "He's a player that can't have another season like he had last year where he didn't play too much." Fujimoto hasn't been able to convince Davies that he is worthy of Championship minutes over the past two years, and the signing of Fuseini will put another body between him and a place in the squad, let alone the starting XI.
Blues are in action against Southampton this evening, so Davies will hope to have everything sorted and settled in advance.
