Blues trigger Solis buy option after Davies plea

Birmingham City have reportedly activated their option to buy Colombian midfielder Jhon Solis on a permanent basis from Girona. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that the Blues have taken up their €7 million (£6m) option to sign the 21-year-old after his successful loan spell at St Andrew's.

Solis becomes fan favourite

The midfielder became a firm favourite among supporters for his combative displays in midfield, racking up 18 appearances across all competitions in the second half of the season. Solis scored his first goal for Blues in their 2-1 win over Bristol City in the penultimate game of last season.

Davies' plea

Manager Chris Davies made no secret of the club's desire to sign him. Speaking to BirminghamLive just before the season ended, Davies said: “I know the player loves it here. I’ve told him how well he’s done and how much we would love for him to be part of it, and he’s really enthusiastic, but we’ll have to see how it all unfolds after the season finishes.”

Priority signing

Re-signing Solis has been a top priority for Blues. If they complete the deal, it will save the recruitment team the hassle of finding a replacement this summer. Blues are already light in midfield after the end of Tommy Doyle's loan and will need at least one more body to complement Paik Seung-ho, Tomoki Iwata and Solis.
