Birmingham City Manager Chris Davies Clarifies Marvin Ducksch's Status Following Drink-Driving Charge
Birmingham City manager Chris Davies has confirmed that striker Marvin Ducksch is available for selection for the upcoming Championship clash against Hull City on Saturday. This announcement comes after Ducksch was charged with drink-driving by police earlier this week, following a three-vehicle crash on Easter Monday.
Internal Consequences and Public Apology
The 32-year-old German forward, who is due to appear in court next month, was dropped from last weekend's victory over Wrexham as a direct result of his off-field incident. Davies revealed that Ducksch has faced internal consequences, including a fine, and has apologised both publicly and privately.
"The club obviously made a statement and Marvin has apologised publicly for what happened," said Davies. "He's apologised privately to me and the players, to the staff. He's taken full responsibility for what happened."
Davies emphasised the importance of handling the situation properly within the club structure, stating that Ducksch has accepted all disciplinary measures. "From there he's re-joined training sessions this week. There's been consequences internally for what happened and that's all something that he's accepted," the manager added.
Return to Training and Selection Considerations
Ducksch, who is Birmingham City's top scorer this season with 11 goals across all competitions, has returned to training and is technically available for the Hull City match. However, Davies indicated that the striker may not immediately return to the starting lineup.
During Ducksch's absence, August Priske has formed a promising partnership with Jay Stansfield, with the duo expected to start for the third consecutive match. Ducksch's last goal came via a free-kick against Sheffield United in March.
Davies concluded: "He's re-joined training and is available for selection. We move on from there. He knows he's made a mistake and he's taken full responsibility for that, which is important."
The situation highlights Birmingham City's approach to player discipline while balancing competitive needs as they continue their Championship campaign.
