Stan Collymore has renewed his effort to unite thousands of Aston Villa supporters for a massive screening of the Europa League final in Birmingham. With Villa on the verge of European glory, no official plans for a large watch party exist, prompting growing calls for the city council to organize a major event for the clash against Freiburg in 11 days.
Ticket Shortage Sparks Demand
Fans received only 11,000 tickets for the final in Istanbul, leaving many Villa supporters in the city without access to the match. Currently, they would have to watch at home or in local pubs. However, demand for a large-scale screening is rising, aiming to bring the claret-and-blue community together to cheer for silverware.
Collymore's Appeal
Speaking on X, Collymore revealed he has contacted the Mayor of Birmingham and Acorns Children's Hospice. He stressed the urgency: "Have communicated with Acorns and the Mayor of Birmingham. The city is up for it. Let's see what can be done. Need as many Villans on board as possible with any logistical help our club can provide. We need everyone involved, time isn't our friend right now." He added hope that the West Midlands region, Birmingham, and the combined authority can make something happen for families and children on final day.
Villa Park Redevelopment Precludes Event
Aston Villa ruled out hosting an event at Villa Park because the North Stand redevelopment begins immediately after the final home match against Liverpool on May 15. Due to tight deadlines, the club cannot delay the accelerated timeline. The North Stand will close for the entire 2026/27 season, ensuring a significantly enhanced facility delivered sooner than planned, boosting stadium capacity above 50,000. An additional 5,500 seats will be added, along with other seating optimization works this summer. Consequently, Villa's only official match screening will be at the Sports Illustrated Warehouse.
Community Call to Action
Collymore urged fans to support the initiative: "Hopefully we can make something happen." The search for a suitable venue continues, with fans invited to suggest locations.
